Why Buy A Sedan? | Newport News, VA

If you believe that crossovers and SUVs are the only vehicles worth considering these days, you need to take another look at sedans. Sedans still offer numerous advantages that make them a smart choice, especially for working adults and parents in Newport News, Virginia. Let’s explore why sedans should be on your list when shopping for your next car at Casey Auto.

Lower Starting Prices

Sedans boast significantly more affordable starting prices compared to SUVs and trucks. Anyone in Newport News seeking a reliable and budget-friendly vehicle will find sedans to be an ideal option. By opting for a sedan from Casey Auto, you can adhere to a tight budget without compromising on quality.

The point is that sedans are more affordable because they’re smaller, not because they have fewer features. You can embrace financial peace of mind while still getting a vehicle that meets your needs.

Efficient Engine Options

One of the most compelling reasons to consider a sedan at Casey Auto is its exceptional fuel efficiency. These vehicle types are lightweight, aerodynamic, and have small engines, so they tend to go further on a tank of gas. That translates into long-term savings on fuel expenses.

Imagine the fuel savings during your long commutes with a sedan like the Toyota Corolla or the Honda Civic, both renowned for their impressive fuel efficiency and environmentally friendly performance.

If you have a daily commute in Newport News, choosing an efficient sedan can substantially reduce the frequency of visits to the gas station. Plus, eco-conscious drivers in Virginia will be pleased to know that sedans typically produce fewer emissions, making them a greener choice for the environment.

Easy Maneuverability

Navigating the streets of Newport News becomes a breeze with a sedan’s compact size and nimble handling. Maneuvering tight turns and parking in crowded areas becomes second nature in a sedan from Casey Auto.

Unlike larger SUVs and trucks, sedans effortlessly handle narrow streets and congested city traffic. That’s due to their smaller size and because they tend to have a tighter turning radius and narrower track. Enjoy the freedom of easy parking and seamless navigation as you explore the city in your sedan.

Well-Appointed Models

Despite their affordability, sedans don’t compromise on comfort and technology. Modern sedans offer a plethora of amenities and advanced features that enhance your driving experience. Stay connected to loved ones through integrated infotainment systems, while enjoying driver-assistance features that prioritize your safety on the road.

In a sedan like the Hyundai Sonata or the Nissan Altima, you’ll find spacious legroom and upscale features that rival those of larger vehicles. The combination of comfort and advanced technologies makes sedans the perfect companions for your daily drives.

Cars have been the vehicle of choice for many drivers in Newport News over the past decades. But in recent years, SUVs have surged in popularity, becoming a trendy choice for families who want extra cargo space and capability. But is an SUV the best choice for everyone? Here’s a look at the differences between SUVs and cars to help you decide which type of vehicle is right for you.

Differences in size

Of the two vehicle types, the vast majority of SUVs are larger than sedans — especially in height. As SUVs are designed to provide more cargo space than cars, they tend to be boxier in shape, thus maximizing the cubic feet of cabin space.

While it may seem obvious that the larger vehicle type is better to drive, do you need a big vehicle? Consider the size of your garage, driveway, and neighborhood streets. Would they fit a big SUV? Keep in mind that larger SUVs are harder to park, store, and maneuver through Virginia traffic.

Differences in build

True SUVs are fundamentally different than cars because they’re constructed differently from the ground up. Cars have unibody constructions that are lighter and offer better handling, ride comfort, and protection in crashes. True SUVs have body-on-frame designs that are better for driving off-road and towing heavy trailers.

Just keep in mind that crossover SUVs are not true SUVs because they share the same unibody platforms as sedans rather than body-on-frame constructions that trucks and true SUVs have.

Differences in fuel efficiency

The larger size of SUVs also impacts their fuel economy. The extra weight requires more work from the engine — and sometimes a larger engine — to get the SUV up to high speeds on the highway. On average, most sedans are lighter in weight, which translates to lower MPG rates than SUVs when traveling in similar circumstances.

Although many SUVs have large V6 engines that produce more horsepower and torque, that also means they burn through fuel much quicker. Do you need that extra power, or would you prefer to save money by not burning through gasoline as quickly?

Differences in cost

An SUV’s larger size, bigger engine, and greater strength typically lead to a higher price. You’re getting more on an SUV, but it’s consequently costing you more — even if you buy a used SUV from Casey Auto. Again, it’s important to consider how necessary it is to spend extra money.

Whether you decide to buy a car or an SUV, we have a large selection of low-priced vehicles in stock — from hatchbacks and sports coupes to crossovers and full-size SUVs. We’ll help you find one that fits your needs and budget.

4 Great Used Family SUVs Under $20K | Newport News, VA

As your family grows, you may find yourself needing more out of your car than you currently have. But upgrading to a larger family SUV can be expensive, especially if you’re on a tight budget. Luckily, there are several used family SUV options that generally sell for less than $20,000, letting you focus on finding the space you need at a price you can afford.

Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is a favorite with families — for good reason. It has impressive cargo space inside and good rear legroom for taller passengers. Depending on the year and model you find, the RAV4 also has a whole host of technology features that include infotainment and safety tech designed to keep the whole family safe and entertained on even the longest road trips.

Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is another familiar vehicle on the roads as it has been around for several decades. A used CR-V offers a comfortable ride, impressive fuel economy, and good safety features to give you added peace of mind behind the wheel.

Chevrolet Traverse

If you need even more passenger space, consider the three-row Chevy Traverse. Unlike many of its competitors, the Traverse offers a spacious third row that can accommodate adults as well as kids. The third row is also easily accessible. When you fold down the third row, you’ll open up plenty of cargo space for groceries, sports equipment, or luggage for a weekend away.

Subaru Outback

Like the majority of the Subaru lineup, the Outback comes with standard all-wheel drive to give you added traction on the road in inclement weather. The Outback also boasts lots of cargo space, five-passenger seating, and a good selection of safety features and technologies. Subaru vehicles are also known for their reliability, and the Outback is no exception.

Tips to Keep Your Used Car Looking Brand New After Buying It from Casey Auto

You’ve just purchased a great-looking used car from Casey Auto, and you want to keep your vehicle looking radiant for years to come. We know all about properly maintaining the condition and appearance of pre-owned vehicles in Newport News, Virginia. Here is some of our top advice for dazzling vehicle upkeep.

Clean it thoroughly – and often

You’d be surprised by how important simply cleaning your car is for maintaining its condition. Whether from usage or being parked outdoors, your car collects harsh grime that will eat away at it. Washing your vehicle’s undercarriage, body panels, windows, and roof will keep contaminants from corroding your used car.

Use protection and restoration kits

Revive the original luster of your car’s paint job while giving it a protective coat of wax by using name-brand car restoration products. Extra shielding will preserve the clearcoat and integrity of your used car. Use a kit to make headlight and taillight lenses crystal clear again, which is also important for seeing at nighttime in Newport News.

Protect the vinyl, plastic, and leather

Even the interior of your used car from Casey Auto can deteriorate over time if neglected. The effects of sunshine through the glass, greasy hands, salty ocean air, and dirty clothes can cause these materials to dry out, crack, and form blemishes over time — which are very difficult to fix. Use vinyl, plastic, leather, and carpet cleaners throughout the cabin to preserve their condition.

Schedule regular maintenance

A good-looking car is only as attractive as how it runs. Don’t neglect its mechanical needs as you focus on its visible needs. Regular oil changes, wheel balances, fluid flushes, and brake checks can do wonders for keeping your used car running for years to come. After all, what good is an attractive car that doesn’t drive well?

Any used car you buy from Casey Auto will be in quality condition, and it’s up to you as the next owner to keep it that way. Take good care of your used car, and it will take good care of you!

You can find many used cars for sale in Newport News — including ones here at Casey Auto. But before you buy one, you need to make sure it’s in good condition. The salty ocean air and cold winters here in Hampton Roads can cause vehicles to deteriorate quickly, so we recommend you perform this pre-purchase-inspection on any used car in Norfolk.

Inspect the exterior for rust, chipped paint, and dents

This should be the first used car inspection step you perform before you even unlock the car. Assess every inch of the vehicle for signs of damage, whether from physical impact or deterioration. Give special attention to the rocker panels, undercarriage, and fenders. Any miscolored portions could be from touchup paint that’s hiding rust.

Look under the hood

You may not be a mechanic, but you can still notice when things are obviously awry under the hood. Look for damage to the battery, motor, hoses, and belts. Does anything look broken or rusted? Leaking or soiled fluids are also problematic.

Check the electrical components

Malfunctioning or short-circuited systems can be expensive to fix — and a sign of underlying weather damage. Make sure the exterior light bulbs, dashboard lights, dome lights, sunroof, touch screen, radio, seat adjustments, heaters, windows, and everything else works as it should.

Take a test drive

Like any car you want to buy, a trip around the block is a must. With used cars, you’ll want to make sure the car drives as it should. How do the steering, acceleration, suspension, shifting, and braking feel? Do you notice any major lag or pull against your inputs?

Casey Auto only sells used cars, trucks, and SUVs that are in great condition and don’t suffer from these hidden problems. You can trust our Newport News dealership to sell only reliable, quality pre-owned vehicles.

2016 Hyundai Elantra and 2016 Hyundai Sonata in Newport News, VA

SUVs and trucks may dominate the spotlight, but there’s a lot to love about sedans. Here at Casey Auto, we have some favorites of our own, including the 2016 Hyundai Elantra and 2016 Hyundai Sonata.

Why should you get a sedan?

With less material to move, sedans are easier to maneuver. What may have been tight parking spots in a truck or SUV become perfectly sized for your sedan.

Less material also means lower costs on both the initial price and maintenance. Some insurers may also charge less for car insurance when you drive a sedan.

Sedans also excel in fuel economy — with older models of compact and midsize cars often getting more miles per gallon than today’s larger vehicles.

2016 Hyundai Elantra

The compact 2016 Hyundai Elantra has two available engines, which each get slightly different mileage ratings on the Elantra’s various trim levels.

The more powerful 2.0-liter inline-four engine, available on the Sport trim, gets 24 mpg in the city or 33-35 mpg on the highway.* The regular 1.8-liter inline-4 gets 27-28 mpg in the city and 37-38 mpg on the highway.*

2016 Hyundai Sonata

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata has four engine choices, with an additional split between the Sonata’s traditional hybrid and plug-in hybrid models.

The Sonata’s base 2.4-liter inline-four engine provides 25 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway.* The more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four gas engine provides 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.* The Sonata’s most environmentally-friendly gas engine — the 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four — gets 28 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on highways.*

The Sonata’s traditional hybrid engine provides between 39 and 40 mpg in the city and 43 or 44 mpg on the highway.* The plug-in model gets an estimated 24-mile electric-only range, after which its traditional hybrid engine grants it 40 mpg in combined city/highway driving.*

How to Save Fuel While Driving Any Car | Newport News, VA

We sell many used cars at Casey Auto, each with varying rates of fuel economy. Whether you drive a family SUV, a work truck, or a commuter sedan, you probably would like to squeeze a bit more efficiency out of your vehicle’s performance here in Newport News. To help you conserve gas in any used car you buy from Casey Auto, here are four recommendations.

Cruise and coast

The quickest way to burn through gasoline is by forcing the engine to work hard. While that may be necessary at times when you’re working or towing here in Newport News, you should try to avoid straining the engine as much as possible. Do this by driving smoothly, using momentum to coast, and accelerate gradually rather than putting the pedal to the metal.

You can also keep your speed consistent by using cruise control on Virginia’s long stretches of highway or rural roads.

Drop extra weight

Having a heavy vehicle also causes the engine to work harder, so lose anything weight it down. If you have a trunk full of tools, roof rails you rarely use, or boxes of books in the back seat, leave those at home.

Inflate the tires

If your car’s tires have low air pressure, that will actually affect the fuel economy of your vehicle. Since the NHTSA has found that many vehicles on the road are statistically likely to have underinflated tires, chances are that your car does too.

Keep the air inflated to the recommended PSI. If you’re not sure what that amount should be, check the plaque on your car’s door jamb or the owner’s manual.

Roll up the windows

As pleasant as the fresh air is here in Newport News, having your car’s windows open increases drag when you’re on the road — especially when you’re traveling faster than 50 mph.

When you need to cool off the cabin, use the vent without the air conditioning — or at least on a low setting. It may not be the most comfortable climate, but it’s a sacrifice you can make to conserve fuel.

Conserving fuel is one of the many ways you can save money on a car in Newport News. Another way is to buy a pre-owned vehicle at Casey Auto. Check out our inventory to find a fuel-efficient used vehicle at a price you — and your wallet — will appreciate.

Casey Auto Looks Back on the History of Ford

We at the Casey Auto Group are big fans of the Ford Motor Company. For over a century, Ford has shown how American ingenuity can revolutionize an entire industry. Since the first Model A car was made in 1903, the blue oval company has been producing game-changing automobiles. Here’s a look back at the automaker’s historic highlights.

Henry Ford build his first vehicle in his private workshop in 1896: a four-wheel bicycle that looked like an open-carriage buggy. It ran on a peppy four-horsepower engine and couldn’t move in reverse.

After some hiccups in getting off the ground, the Ford Motor Company finally is launched and earns a profit in 1903 thanks to its Model A. Henry’s dedication paid off — and would continue to as the company overcame future hurdles.

In 1908, the same year Ford began selling overseas, Ford introduced its now-legendary Model T. By the end of its production 20 years later, over 15 million Model T units were sold.

Seeing a need for a utility vehicle for farmers and craftsmen, Henry Ford made the Model TT truck in 1917. It had an open bed, reinforced chassis, and sturdy rear axle that could handle more weight than other vehicles on the market could.

Ford saw the potential in having a luxury branch of the company, so it acquired the Lincoln Motor Company from Henry Leland in 1922. Lincoln is still Ford’s premium brand 100 years later.

In the decades following, Ford made innovations like producing the first commercially successful V8 engine, launching the mid-tier Mercury brand for the middle class, and using crash tests to improve the safety and design of its vehicles.

Can you believe that the F-Series line of trucks has been around since 1948? No wonder that models like the F-150 and Super Duty have become top-selling nameplates on the market all these years later.

Another recognizable Ford name appeared in 1964: the Mustang. This pony car was an instant success and continues to be a desirable model to own.

The Ford Taurus may not seem as stunning as the Mustang or F-Series, but it was revolutionary in its own right when it debuted in 1985. It set the standard for now-common front-wheel-drive car designs on economic unibody platforms.

Own a piece of history when you take home a new or used Ford vehicle from a Casey Auto dealership. You can still find many of these influential Ford models for sale here in Newport News, such as the F-150 truck or Mustang sports car.

History of Chevrolet | Newport News, VA

History of Chevrolet

Chevrolet has been around since the early days of the automotive industry. The automaker’s drive to create new vehicles geared to the average consumer has made it one of the most popular brands in the industry. Affordable, high-quality vehicles are synonymous with the Chevrolet legacy.

Founded in 1911, the Chevrolet Motor Company released the Classic Six as its first production vehicle. The brand’s first model failed to turn a profit thanks to fierce competition from other American automakers. In 1917, founders William Durant and Louis Chevrolet joined the General Motors family.

Just six years after joining General Motors, Chevrolet sold its millionth vehicle. The brand’s knack for innovation made it popular among the average consumer. Competitors, on the other hand, kept their offerings stagnant throughout the first few decades of the 1900s.

In 1929, Chevrolet unveiled its first six-cylinder engine. The engine offered more power for drivers who wanted a more exhilarating ride. The establishment of a six-cylinder engine would change the industry for good.

The Great Depression hit automakers hard, but Chevrolet was one of the few manufacturers to adjust their marketing and offerings. The Chevrolet Sport Roadster, for example, featured “The Great American Value” tagline.

The 1936 Chevrolet Suburban introduced the world to what would become the world’s longest continuous production nameplate. Still in production today, the Suburban offers families a spacious interior with top technologies.

Chevrolet committed to World War II by ceasing production of civilian vehicles. It wasn’t until 1946 that the American automaker returned to producing vehicles for retail consumers.

The first Chevrolet Corvette hit roadways in 1953. The model sold just 300 units in its introductory year. Two years later, in 1955, Chevrolet brought the V8 engine to the road, driving innovation once more.

The Chevrolet Impala dominated the 1960s and quickly became an American icon. Over the next few decades, the American automaker continued to introduce new vehicles designed to appeal to customers.

In 2010, Chevrolet sold its 214 millionth vehicle. New models, such as the Camaro and Tahoe, continue to dominate their respective segments. If the past is any indication of what the future holds, Chevrolet will continue to dominate the competition.
